INSTALLATION OF Sage-ST

Installation instructions vary depending on the platform on which you are loading the Sage-ST ^TM Development System. Currently, Sage-ST ^TM supports three platforms: DOS Meridian, DOS Alsys, and Verdix Unix on the 3B2 and Sun SPARC. Each of these platforms has its own section covering idiosyncrasies of installation and use. Please read the section corresponding to your platform before installing Sage-ST ^TM .

The installation packet will install the entire Sage-ST ^TM Development System onto your computer unless you specify otherwise. The following is a list of the tools that will be installed and their functions. Sage-ST ^TM Library - This library includes the actual Sage-ST ^TM packages compiled into library format. The Ada compiler must have been installed and must be operational BEFORE attempting to install these libraries. If this installation fails, a file called FAMBUILD.BAT can be found in the root directory. This file lists the commands that must be executed in order for the libraries to be properly installed.

Installation of the libraries requires a minimum of 16MB of disk space. THOR/REBUILD - These tools include the data dictionary and user interface editor, and the rebuild utility. These are stand-alone programs and do not require the Ada compiler or the Sage-ST ^TM libraries. CONFIGR/MONITOR/LOG - These include the system administrator tools for redefining the location of files, monitoring MultSage network activity, and restoring data files after a failure. These are stand-alone programs and do not require the Ada compiler or the Sage-ST ^TM libraries. GRAPL - This tool is a subset Sage-ST ^TM interpreter useful for initial prototyping, for teaching basic Ada and Sage-ST ^TM concepts, and for getting started while waiting for your compiler to arrive. This is a stand-alone program and does not require the Ada compiler or the Sage-ST ^TM libraries. SDI - The SAGE Database Inquiry (SDI) system is used to produce ad hoc reports and queries. This is a stand-alone program and does not require the Ada compiler or the Sage-ST ^TM libraries. SQL - This is an interactive, ANSI standard DML-Level 1 Standard Query Language for SAGE databases. This is a stand-alone program and does not require the Ada compiler or the Sage-ST ^TM libraries. DOCUMENTATION - This includes the entire Sage-ST ^TM documentation (Volumes 1 and 2) in ASCII format.
