Renaming Relations

After a relation has been defined and the database has been populated, a developer may find it necessary to rename a relation. To rename a relation, follow the steps shown below:

NOTE: Before you start the renaming procedures, first make a backup of the current DFL and data files in case you must refer back to them.

Verify that the data files are current with the DFL by rebuilding the files.

At the DOS command line, rename data files to the new name (if the file name is to change with the relation.

Invoke THOR and select the File Set Editor. Change the file names (data, index and block) to the new name (name entered at Step 2).

Return to the THOR main menu and select the Relation Definition Editor. Rename the relation name to the new name.

Return to the THOR main menu and select Compile. If the compilation is successful continue to Step 6; otherwise verify previous changes.

Exit from THOR and REBUILD the database using the Reformat and Index option (refer to REBUILD section for details).

Once the rebuild is complete, check to make sure the program is operating and the files can be accessed.

Once you are assured the rebuild was successful you are free to go back in and add fields, change fields, etc.

NOTE: Do not change fields or make any other modifications to the DFL until you have completed the steps shown above. Failure to do this will result in losing all your data! Go Back To Sage-ST TABLE OF CONTENTS
